Welcome Letter
Dear MMUUSD School Community,
Welcome to the 2023-24 school year! Our buildings have been thoroughly cleaned and prepared for students, staff and families, most positions are filled, classrooms are equipped, staff inservice activities completed and students have started the new year. I extend my sincere gratitude to our maintenance staff for their effort and focus in preparing for this school year. Their hard work and dedication provide us with safe, healthy and welcoming learning environments. We are ready for a fresh and engaging school year.
As we start the new school year, I want to share some key multi-year priorities that will guide MMUUSD’s professional development, student learning and educational practices. These include:
- Support and promote social and emotional health of students and staff.
- Continue our anti-bias, anti-racism, equity and inclusion work so our schools are respectful, accessible and rewarding for all students.
- Provide rich, comprehensive and effective early literacy and mathematics programming and instruction to all students.
- Implementation of a diverse collection of instructional strategies, assessments and supports to meet the individual social, emotional and academic needs of students.
- Ensure alignment and continuity of Prek-12 curricula so students have equitable educational experiences as they progress in our school system.
We will be providing updates and information on these priorities in our District Happenings throughout this school year.
This has been a challenging summer for a lot of Vermonters. At times the rain seemed unrelenting, summer plans were altered and July’s flooding impacted community members in our District and across Vermont. This was disheartening and destabilizing for many. What was inspiring, affirming and uplifting were the acts of kindness, generosity and selflessness offered by municipal employees, community organizations, volunteers and local residents to those struggling and in need of support. I am grateful to live in a place where people will go the extra mile to help a neighbor or a stranger. A goal of our District is to graduate effective and engaged citizens. I met and observed many effective and engaged citizens in MMUUSD this summer.
We look forward to a safe and successful school year. A sunny end of the summer and fall would be great too!
